Carrying this dialogue historiogffia bit further, Breisach also revealed to me how our hopes, desires and aspirations for the future also form our view of the past and shape the present. While it is a very ideal and important read for history studies, it was a struggle to focus on it.
Breisach is “scholarly” in that he raises concerns and questions specific to intensive historical inquiry, but properly a “survey” because he limits interaction with secondary literature and the endless citations that would accompany it.
