All You Should Know About the Piqua Shawnee People The Piqua Shawnee people is one of the indigenous American communities. Originally, this tribe of people was involved in farming, fishing and hunting as some of their key economic activities. We know that there has been no straightforward way of understanding the history of any group of people except by relating those people to their day to day activities. As a result of this fact, then, we will use the approach of grouping activities into social and economic subgroup to ease the understanding of the Piqua Shawnee tribe. The social activities of any group of people relate to the cultural practices of that people. The economic activities, on the other hand, are daily activities that are meant for the livelihood of any tribe. As we have already seen above, the Piqua Shawnee tribe engaged itself in the farming, fishing and hunting as their key economic practices. For the hunting activities, the Piqua Shawnee tribe relied on bows, arrows and sometimes spears although spears could also be used for fishing. As it is for any community, these economic activities were sometimes conducted by a few individuals or the entire tribe depending on a few factors. Pottery, beadwork and wood carving were also commonly done trades but they were conducted only on a very small scale.

Culturally, the Piqua Shawnee people wore a number of clothes. The leggings were a common form of clothing among the Piqua Shawnee tribe and were used by both men and women. Ponchos were also another type of clothing but were only used during the cold seasons. To adorn the feet, moccasin shoes were commonly preferred. Other forms of clothing included the headbands adorned with feathers as well as headdresses. To add color to their clothing, the Piqua Shawnee tribe of people could do tattoos or plain facial paintings.

Still on the cultural aspect of the Piqua Shawnee People, there is the aspect of the languages used in communication. The Shawnee language is a commonly used mode of communication among the elderly members of the community. It is, however, noteworthy, that this language is no longer taught and as a result of this, then, only the elders have its perfect mastery. The youth have, however, the advantage of using English which is also the other language among the Piqua Shawnee people. In closing, we should also look at the types of the house the Piqua Shawnee people resided in. The Piqua Shawnee people resided in huts made of wood and covered by mats and birch back. The designers could design this huts to form beautiful shapes such as the cone, the dome or even rounded. Trust lands, unlike reservation lands, are a common living place for the Piqua Shawnee group of people in today’s world.
